Reinforcing its drive to create a greener beauty industry, GEKA has been awarded its third Platinum rating for sustainability by EcoVadis. A leading provider of high precision cosmetics application solutions, medmix Beauty brand GEKA continues to demonstrate leadership in its sector as part of the top 1% of companies assessed.

EcoVadis provides the world’s most trusted business sustainability ratings. Companies rely on EcoVadis to provide comprehensive sustainability reports that accurately benchmark their overall performance and to inform about their sustainability strategies. Participants can encourage transparency by sharing this information with stakeholders and utilize it to inform sustainability strategies.

The reports focus on four main categories, which together provide an overall score. In its sector, GEKA ranked among the top 1% of companies for Labor & Human Rights in addition to the top 2% for Environment and Sustainable Procurement (both up from the top 6% in 2021).

Oliver Vogel, Head of GEKA, said: “Annually benchmarking our sustainability efforts with EcoVadis is a key aspect of our wider strategy. We want to deliver innovative cosmetic solutions that don’t compromise the beauty of our planet. Our noticeable improvement in the Environment and Sustainable Procurement categories illustrates how we are continuously working on optimizing our sustainability. I would like to thank everyone for their efforts in this regard.”

EcoVadis is not the only independent expert GEKA is collaborating with to transparently support its customers and suppliers in attaining environmental targets. Recently, the business committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30% in 2029 compared to 2019, which was independently validated by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). In 2022, the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISSC) PLUS certification was awarded to its cosmetic packaging injection blow molding plant in Elgin, Illinois.

Recently, offering more detail and enhanced transparency, GEKA has released its first annual sustainability report, which assessed its environmental, social and governance performance from October 2020 to September 2021. The percentage of low-carbon energy used at its facilities is steadily growing, while recycled and bio-based polymers are being widely adopted in product design. GEKA has pledged to send zero waste to landfill by 2025.

Innovative sustainable beauty products are already on the shelves too. As such, the Reborn collection of mascara, lip gloss, eyebrow brushes, cleaning pads and accessories is manufactured from 93% bio-based and recycled materials, offering end users a truly sustainable beauty option.
